Tips for Putting Together a Tournament Planning Committee

Planning a golf tournament can be one of the most challenging aspects of running a country club. For this reason, a planning committee is usually the best way to go because they can solely dedicate their time to the success of an event.

The average event takes around six months to plan out. So, what does a golf tournament planning committee have to do?

This is what it takes to plan a Kissimmee golf tournament.

Committee Needs

You need to know what type of members you will need to have on your committee. You will need a Chairman/President/Event Planner who will lead the charge and delegate what they must do to others.

Then, you will need a Secretary that can take notes of all of the meetings and get certain tasks and assignments done. Of course, you will need a Treasurer that can keep track of funds and estimate the budget needed for the tournament.

Along with those three positions, you will need at least one person in charge of Marketing. This person will figure out how to promote the tournament and get potential sponsors and advertisers for it to raise extra funds.

Finally, you will need someone to reach out to potential players or specifically target a group of players to participate in your golf tournament

Type of Tournament

Another thing that a committee could have to decide is what type of tournament it will be. Sometimes, this is decided before a committee is assembled, but if starting from scratch, this could be their responsibility.

A few different types of tournaments that you can play involve match play, stroke play, best ball, chapman, and more.

The committee may need to figure out what type of golfers they wish to draw into the tournament and which format is the most likely to result in the greatest or most elite participation.

Event Needs

Finally, a committee needs to figure out what exactly needs to be done to ensure the tournament will run smoothly on the day it happens. Obviously, they need to draw enough golfers to make the tournament worth doing.

But they also need things like food vendors, selecting a date, time, and location, plus making sure staff or volunteers are readily available for this tournament.

If a committee wants to raise extra money during the tournament, they could run an auction and try to find items that are worth bidding on. You could also have a dinner the night before or the night after the tournament for additional charity.

Plus, tournaments usually need an easily accessible website for people to find out more information about them.
